The article is an outstanding example of the possibilities within the field of the history of science as the result of a collaborative and creative team effort. By closely examining sandalwood in the Juan Fernández Islands (Chile), Natalia Gandara and Aleksandra Kaye adopt an ambitious approach to a local phenomenon while situating it within a broader spatial context. In doing so, their analysis of the circulation and exploitation of sandalwood opens a dialogue with other regions and disciplines without losing sight of its primary focus. We are delighted to award the prize to this article and encourage the authors to continue exploring these important topics.
