Adriana Guadarrama Sosa is an independent researcher based in Granada, Spain. She obtained her PhD in History and Arts from the University of Granada (2025). Her thesis, titled The Invasion of Modernity on the Dunes of the Port City of Veracruz (1873-1939), explores the relationship between humans and coastal dunes through the lenses of environmental history and the history of science.

During her doctoral studies, she was a recipient of the Paulo Freire+ scholarship from the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) and a fellow of the Slicher van Bath de Jong Foundation (CEDLA/UvA). She completed a research stay funded by the Erasmus+ program at the Center for History of the University of Lisbon (2023), within the ERC research project DUNES. Also, she participated in the History of Science and Knowledge Workshop hosted by the Network of Science and Knowledge in Latin America and the Caribbean (RECSLAC) at the University of Maryland (2024).

Her academic interests encompass coastal history, human-nonhuman relations, networks of experts and landscape and biocultural heritage. Currently, she is a research collaborator at AMBTEC. Technology and the Environment in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Mexican Gulf-Caribbean: Rethinking Agro-industrial and Livestock Production, c. 1840s-1930s, project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency. She is also part of the Environmental Humanities Laboratory of the Environmental Humanities Observatory at the University of Granada, and a member of the research group South Training Action Network of Decoloniality (STAND). She has also worked with photographic archives and as a cultural manager.
